Real xiao long bao involves aspic and years of practice. This version involves wonton wrappers from the grocery store and about 30 minutes. It's not identical, but it's genuinely good โ and it gets dinner on the table on a weeknight without requiring a culinary arts degree.
What You Need
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 16 wonton wrappers
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
How to Make It
- 1
Mix ground pork with soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and chicken broth until combined. The broth will create steam inside the dumpling as it cooks.
- 2
Place a small teaspoon of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Dampen the edges with water and pleat the wrapper closed, pressing firmly to seal.
- 3
Steam dumplings in a bamboo steamer or on a plate set over simmering water for 12โ15 minutes until the filling is cooked through. Serve with a dipping sauce of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sliced ginger.
