Overnight Oats (The Right Way)

Overnight oats done wrong are a gelatinous slog that tastes like sadness soaked in milk. Done right, they're genuinely creamy, slightly thick, and filling in a way that carries you through the morning. The ratio is everything, and the yogurt is non-negotiable.

What You Need

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk, any kind
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • honey, fruit, or nut butter for topping

How to Make It

  1. 1

Combine oats, milk, yogurt, and chia seeds in a jar or container. Stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 6 hours.

  2. 2

In the morning, stir well โ€” the chia seeds will have absorbed liquid and thickened everything considerably. If it's too thick for your taste, stir in a splash more milk.

  3. 3

Top with whatever you have: sliced banana, berries, honey, granola, or a spoonful of peanut butter.
